Best Excuse to Eat French Fries Today?

Did anybody know that July 13 is National French Fry Day?  This is the day that I live for!  :)

Those who know me, know that I love fries.  But I'm also very picky about my fries.  Frozen fries are yucky and gross.  Battered fries are an abomination to french fries.  I think the best fries I've ever had came from the Woodgreen Fish and Chips restaurant down on Queen Street East.  The place was run by a friend of the family and they have been in the business for several years but recently they've decided to sell the place as the owners were looking forward to retirement.

My second favorite place for fries is probably Swiss Chalet.  However, half the order always consists of potato crumbs.  Boooo.  :)

There's gotta be better places for fries.  Any suggestions?  What about condiments?  I'm a classic ketchup girl.  I've heard that the French prefer mayonnaise.

I hope everyone goes out and gets their french fry fix today.

NY Fries are good. :) I haven't had them in years. Most recently I had McDonalds fries. They are okay but when you haven't had fries in a long time, almost any kind of fries will do.

Ketchup is the bestmate for fries!

Fries...the oily the better. The thicker cut the better...because there is more surface area for the oil.

Ketchup is ok. Fries are better in the poutine combination (esp. the cheese curds). You must be able to find good poutine in Ottawa since Montreal is so close.

Had swiss chalet with Karen the other day...ordered a poutine and meal with fries! They were the best we thought. No fry bits this time =) Definitely worth revisiting this combination.

poutine is really good.
but like fries, not all poutine is made equal.

the best is in montreal. i hear it's the gravy that is different.

i remember the days when we used to have poutine from KFC. looking back, we were such pigs. :)
